The Waterberg Rock Art Safari Tour Explore the San Rock Art in the Waterberg by visiting the Goergap Shelter. The Lephalala River has channeled its course through the sandstone mountain ranges and most of the numerous suitable ledges, hollows and overhangs show evidence of utilization by prehistoric people. Although rock paintings are a feature at most of these small sites, it would seem that some localities were used only for the execution of rock art and, possibly ritual. We invite you to view this historic gallery! The paintings are mainly of animal figures in white and red. Lizard-like figures in white dominate. Older paintings are in red and black while the white paintings are more recent. Grinding Hollows in the natural rock formations as well as upper and lower grindstones are present at a number of sites.
