What makes our Rock Art Safari unique is that you get to personally observe original cave art, rock engravings and painted rocks in their original form, then you take a fusion of archaeology, art, travel and experience back home with you. The Rock Art safari in Southern Africa is one of the most treasured safaris we offer. Rock art is precious; it tells of the first inhabitants of our land, their paintings are mystical, sacred and the artists have long vanished. However these paintings were never sold and priced whist the artists lived and I wonder if they ever thought they would never see them again or that they would not be able to pass the art of the rock art to generations to come. So we are left with the most valuable original art ever that time will erase - this is the awesome artistic tale of people who roamed the entire Wilderness of Southern Africa. The Rock Art must be viewed at its source to grasp its value. This Bushman or San handiwork is Africa’s oldest rock art and, as an archaeological relic, cannot be, sold, bought or exported which is why we invite you to our unique galleries in the Sandstone hills, under mountain rock-falls and behind rocky outcrops in Southern Africa. Finding rock art is an adventure in itself, but exploring the Sandstone overhangs and caves is an escapade that adds another dimension to the safari. Knowing about Stone-age painters and their rock art is never a substitute for the real thing! They will not be here for very long as the weathered rock is subject to the elements, which will erase the artefacts, which makes it priceless. I am told that even the flash of camera’s can shorten the painting’s life. Having said that and having taken non-flash pictures of some rock art – the energy of the paintings is lost in even the best copies, somehow, it always seems to misrepresent them. So, as people who appreciate original art, we want to share these sites with you, and give you a mind picture to treasure forever. |
